The Heart of Outreach
Dwight Lindman
The heart of outreach is about reaching the lost and hurting through the eyes and hands of Christ.
Jesus saw into the deepest parts of men and women. He asked tremendous, probing questions and met people at their greatest need. At the same time, He addressed both their perceived needs and their real needs, including physical needs.
Joining Christ in His Work
The laborer is called to the work Christ has given him or her. We work in concert with what He is doing—led by the Spirit, guided by the Word, and working unto the Lord, not unto man.
In the Great Commission, Jesus tells us to go. He sends us with all authority, and we go in His name.
Compelled by His Love
The heart of outreach also comes from overwhelming posture of gratitude: He reached out to us when we hated Him and were His enemies.
He loved us and turned our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.
We reach out not to earn favor, but because His grace compels us to carry His presence to others—even those in the hidden corners of our cities.
